Since I was in my 20’s, I have walked my life staying tuned to the Spirit of Truth. I have determined in my will to make no excuse for myself, to repent when my heart turns to dark thoughts, and be responsible for my actions and move with the light!
A result which leaves a person in shock from action or words which our little person was not equipped to handle is genuine trauma! As our mind and body grow and mature, our emotional makeup seems not to keep up. It gets stuck in that traumatic event. We must have the Spirit of truth, His perspective which rules beyond our emotional immaturity comes and helps us to step out of that pain. We can not suppress it, get over it, ignore it, nor move on! When this “frozen self” controls, our adult self-rebels! In that rebellion, often, addiction takes over to soothe that stunted emotional self! Addiction comes in different forms. For me, it is food that I use to self-medicate to take the edge off of my anxiety! Sometimes when a situation occurs which triggers that wounded inner child, I make choices which bring damage.
But, we have the Holy Spirit, who promises never to leave us in that state! He helps us not to nurture our orphan spirit, but believe that we are no longer orphans! He promised never to leave us nor forsake us. I have come to know His word is true. Our circumstances may never change, but our adopted and healed self–live on a different level called–Faith-Hope-Love! That tells us that we are hard pressed on every side but not crushed! Perplexed but not in despair. Persecuted but not abandoned. Struck down but not destroyed. We are these earthen vessels filled with His Life.
My friends, His mercy helps us not to lose heart! The same Spirit which raised our Christ from the dead Lives in us! What more do we need to be an overcomer and let that “frozen self” break from fear and connect back with our adult mind, soul, and body!
